This is a new version of the Benson War Memorial and Graves Book of Remembrance first published in 1995 for the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.
Edited by the late William Burtt (husband of Janet Burtt, co-author of our Benson - A Century of Change) and researched by Alastair Jack, the book is a tribute to the fallen of both World Wars and gives us a deeply moving insight into the individual stories behind the names carved in stone on the War Memorial and on the thirty-three War Graves in the extension to Benson churchyard.
In his Introduction, the Right Honourable Michael Heseltine MP writes, "With it comes an even greater sense of loss. We speak of the waste of war, the pity of war. These pages are a reminder of that waste, that pity."
Arranged chronologically, it succinctly explains the circumstances of each death. This new edition has been reset with some additional material and an alphabetical index to names, and has an attractive full-colour laminated cover.
